To use Windows Media Player, log off from Windows, Log back on....
'Tis exams season. In order to lock down our desktops for exams we use group policy to set the shell to be the Novell Application Launcher and also restrict access to the internet by putting in dummy proxy credentials and software restriction policies to prevent launch. We then have logic in the NAL to display only those icons that are required for specific exams. - e.g. a generic exams account that provides only functionality to launch Word and to logout.
We also have Music and Languages accounts that in addition to Word also launch Media Player.
Today, the languages exam - the first of the season. Had a problem whereby when Media Player is launched via the NAL the above error message appeared. Full text: "To use Windows media Player, log off from Windows, log back on, and then start Windows Media Player." Suffice to say, logging off and on doesn't fix the problem.
Error as it turns out is due to not using Explorer as the Shell.
